Graphic Business-Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) Insurance Fair opens in Accra

Dozens of insurance companies are showcasing their products and policies to commuters and traders in Accra Central as the annual Graphic Business-Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) Insurance Fair opened at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Gardens today.

Over 25 insurance companies, brokers, and complaint agencies have gathered at the Gardens, creating a buzz of excitement and anticipation. Notable participants include Hollard Life Insurance, Activa International Insurance, GLICO, GLICO Life, SUNU Insurance, Provident Life Insurance, Millennium Insurance, Donewell Insurance, Enterprise Insurance, Vanguard Insurance, and SIC Insurance.

Other exhibitors include Old Mutual, Imperial General Assurance, Star Assurance, miLife Insurance, KEK Insurance Brokers Limited, DVLA, the Complaints Management and Advice Bureau, and Provident Insurance.

Armed with brochures, booklets, flyers, and digital technology displays, these insurers are prepared to engage with clients and customers. Each company has set up its own stand and booth, adorned with decorative banners and paraphernalia to attract visitors.

The Graphic Business spoke to several customers and staff from these insurance companies, who expressed enthusiasm and emphasized the importance of insurance. 

"Insurance has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I have no regrets about insuring myself, my family, and my home," one client shared with the Graphic Business.

The three-day fair, which began yesterday, is set to conclude on Friday. Under the theme "Promoting Inclusivity and Accessibility," the fair, an annual event hosted by Graphic Business and the Ghana Insurers Association, aims to encourage informal sector workers to consider insurance packages.

The Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Michael Kofi Andoh, announced the launch of a Sandbox initiative designed to explore innovative methods for making insurance more accessible and affordable. He urged Ghanaians to take insurance seriously and integrate it into their lives.

The Vice President of the Ghana Insurers Association, Nashiru Iddrisu revealed that insurance companies paid out over GHC 3 million in claims daily as of 2022. He projected that this figure will exceed GHC 5 million in 2024. "Let us embrace insurance; the days of delays are over," he stated.
