Hala GH launches plan to reduce digital access barriers

Hala GH launched a smartphone instalment plan that drew attention to rising concerns about digital access and the financial barriers that had kept many Ghanaians from owning quality devices.

The initiative, led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mouhammad Khoder, highlighted how the high upfront cost of smartphones had limited opportunities for people who relied on them for work, education, communication and basic transactions.

The plan, introduced at the company’s new branch at Marina Mall in Spintex, allowed customers to acquire a new Samsung device after paying a minimum deposit of GH¢300, with the balance spread over four months.

The arrangement placed Hala GH among the companies that had turned to instalment models to help reduce barriers to phone ownership.

Company officials said the registration process was kept simple, requiring only a Ghana Card and a guarantor.

A phone priced at GH¢1,700 required the same GH¢300 deposit, a structure intended to support workers, students and small business owners who could not meet full upfront costs.

Models and security

Samsung models available at the launch included the Galaxy A06, Galaxy A07, Galaxy A16 and Galaxy A17, with additional models such as the A26, A36 and A56 expected to follow.

Hala GH relied on Samsung Knox Guard, a security feature that allowed devices to be locked if payment terms were not honoured. The company said the feature protected both customers and the business while encouraging responsible financing.

All phones under the scheme were original Samsung devices and came with warranties and after-sales support.

Hala GH also worked with local partners including Technology R US Limited, Capital Phones, Gafkwa Trading Enterprise, Heroes Gate and Franko Trading Enterprise.

Expand access

Mr Khoder said the instalment plan was introduced after the company observed that many people needed smartphones for essential tasks but struggled with lump-sum payments.

He said the initiative was expected to help more Ghanaians access the digital tools required for daily life without added financial strain.
