The depot, which is adjacent to the port, is now the largest dedicated empty container storage depot in the country with a total surface area of 35,000 square kilometers.

This permits about 5,500 shipping containers to be stored on site at any one time. It also allows for an annual throughput of 70,000 shipping containers.

The depot was officially re-opened by the Director-General (DG) of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr Richard Anamoo.

The Chairman of Hull Blyth Ghana, Mr Mike Ankuma, who gave the welcome address, assured the shipping community of the company's commitment to help grow their businesses.

The Managing Director (MD) of the Hull Blyth Group, Mr James Baldwin, and the MD of Hull Blyth Ghana, Mrs Caroline Baldwin, were also present at the event.

The DG of the GPHA mentioned the continued investment by GPHA in port infrastructure, access roads and development of the railway system to serve the country's rapidly growing international trade as some of the initiatives being pursued by the authority to help create an enabling environment for businesses to grow.

Once these investments were completed, Mr Anamoo said, the Tema Port would be leading the way in the West Africa region as the deep water port of choice for all stakeholders.

The MD of Hull Blyth Ghana said the company was proud of the significant investment in the country's shipping industry.

"This investment highlights our continued co-operation with the GPHA. Together, we provide added value to the shipping lines and their customers whom we serve in Ghana," he said.

The depot operates 24 hours in a day and had since 2013, introduced a container bar-coding for more effective tracking of containers there.
