Johnnie Walker Blonde: Johnnie Walker launches bold new whisky variant in Ghana

The world’s leading Scotch whisky brand, Johnnie Walker, has unveiled its latest innovation, Johnnie Walker Blonde, with a vibrant launch event in Ghana that promises to redefine the whisky experience for a new generation of drinkers.

The new variant was introduced over the weekend at the Rehab Beach Club during World Whisky Weekend, attracting some of Ghana’s most influential personalities and creative minds.

The event, which blended music, fashion, and premium whisky, marked the official debut of Johnnie Walker Blonde in the country. According to Abena Chrappah, Senior Brand Manager for Spirits at Guinness Ghana, the launch was designed to showcase the lively and unconventional nature of the new whisky. “We want this launch to show what Johnnie Walker Blonde really is—lively, different from what you would expect, and all about bringing people together,” she said.

Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Marketing Manager at Guinness Ghana, explained that Johnnie Walker Blonde is not intended to replace existing offerings but to expand the whisky landscape. “It’s not just another bottle on the shelf. It’s an invitation for more people to join the whisky conversation,” she said, noting that the new variant aims to attract younger consumers and those new to the category.

Johnnie Walker Blonde distinguishes itself with a lighter, smoother profile. Innovations Marketing Manager Michael Acheampong described it as sweet, easy on the palate, and still unmistakably Johnnie Walker. “It brings something new to the category—accessible and enjoyable, without losing the signature character,” he stated.

Ahead of the public launch, distributors and retail partners were treated to a private tasting session on May 13. The trade event was led by Caesar Mafando, CPA Manager for E-commerce, who highlighted the whisky’s versatility. Whether sipped neat, served over ice, or mixed with citrus, Johnnie Walker Blonde offers a refreshing alternative for those seeking a softer introduction to whisky.

Saturday night’s launch went beyond drinks—it was a celebration of Ghanaian culture and creativity. Afrobeats sensation Olive the Boy delivered a spirited performance, followed by DJ Lord OTB, two-time Guinness Ghana DJ of the Year, who kept the crowd energised. A fashion runway show added a bold visual element, with designs reflecting the fresh and colourful essence of the new whisky.

The event also reflected a broader strategy by Guinness Ghana to evolve with changing tastes and preferences. By incorporating local culture and working with homegrown creatives, the brand hopes to position whisky as fun, inclusive, and proudly African.

Johnnie Walker Blonde is now available across Ghana in 750ml bottles. With its light, citrusy character and smooth vanilla notes, it’s a whisky crafted to mix, sip, and start conversations—perfect for sunny afternoons and energetic nights alike.
