Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) has posted a strong financial performance for the first nine months of 2025, recording a 45.9 per cent year-on-year increase in profit after tax to GH₵5.5 billion, driven by sustained growth in data and Mobile Money services and strategic investments in network expansion.
According to its financial statement released today, MTN Ghana’s service revenue grew by 36.3 per cent to GH₵17.3 billion, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 41.6 per cent to GH₵10.2 billion, achieving a margin of 58.4 per cent. The company paid GH₵7.3 billion in direct and indirect taxes to the state during the period.
The Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett said the strong performance reflected consistent execution of the company’s commercial strategy and improvements in the macroeconomic environment. “Our results were driven by subscriber growth and sustained capital expenditure, supported by better operational conditions that strengthened our performance across key business lines,” he stated.
MTN Ghana’s total subscriber base grew by 6.4 per cent to 30.5 million, with active data subscribers rising by 11.4 per cent to 18.9 million and active Mobile Money users increasing by 4.1 per cent to 17.7 million. Data revenue rose sharply by 46.8 per cent to GHS9.3 billion, accounting for 53.6 per cent of total service revenue, while Mobile Money revenue increased by 39.2 per cent to GHS4.3 billion.
The company invested GHS4.6 billion in capital expenditure during the period, including GH₵3.3 billion in ex-lease spending to improve network quality, expand coverage and upgrade IT systems. By the end of September, MTN had achieved 98.9 per cent 4G population coverage nationwide.
In line with its sustainability commitments, the MTN Ghana Foundation launched several initiatives, including the construction of a digital resource centre at the University for Development Studies in Tamale to train over 30,000 students in artificial intelligence, robotics and the Internet of Things. The Foundation also trained 160 small businesses in fintech and accounting principles and supported over 4,000 learners through its Digital Skills Academy.
Mr Blewett noted that MTN’s approval from the National Communications Authority to harmonise its spectrum licences would improve service quality and support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. “This milestone will enhance network performance and strengthen our ability to deliver innovative services nationwide,” he said.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to stakeholder collaboration, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction, emphasising plans to leverage artificial intelligence tools to enhance customer engagement. “We will continue to scale our platforms, expand the MoMo ecosystem, and introduce innovative services that meet customer needs while advancing financial inclusion,” Mr Blewett added.
MTN Ghana said it remains optimistic about the final quarter of 2025 and expects stable macroeconomic conditions, projecting service revenue growth in the mid-to-upper thirties percentage range and EBITDA margins in the mid-fifty per cent range.
