Anja's debut album with will.i.am goes horribly flat
The 18-year-old, who recorded her self-titled album last month, launched her cover versions with Universal Music Australia, which went in at No. 11 on this week’s ARIA album chart.
The chart flop will prompt many to question the value of winning the Channel Nine show if it results in so few sales and little chart success.
The poor showing places her behind Sydney brother and sister act Angus and Julia Stone whose self-titled album sold 12,639 copies in the first week of release.
Inaugural winner Karise Eden sold 35,621 copies of her winner’s journey album two years ago, and last year Harrison Craig’s covers album sold 13,167.
Anja's new single So Excited is a fun dance track, with both her The Voice Australia coach will.i.am and X Factor Australia judge Redfoo to star in its music video.
Her collaboration with her 39-year-old Black Eyed Peas rapper coach comes after he decided to axe her planned debut single My Girls.
'We had a lot of ideas for a song, and will.i.am decided that he didn't necessarily want me to do that one,' she previously told the Nine Network.
My Girls, co-written by Delta Goodrem, was due to be released towards the end of last month with the blonde beauty to premiere it on Nine's Today show.
The Sydney native said she jetted straight into a Los Angeles studio with will.i.am after winning the grand final, saying 'we talked about what was next, and he gave me a lot of industry advice.'
Given the rapper and producer has sold over 25 million albums as part of The Black Eyed Peas, and millions upon millions of singles, it's advice Anja refused to question.
Her debut album of her The Voice Australia covers includes Mariah Carey's Vanishing, Beyonce's Irreplaceable and Lauryn Hill's His Eye On The Sparrow.
