Bui Power Authority commissions 50MWp Solar Power Plant in Yendi
The $59-million plant, constructed by the Bui Power Authority (BPA), is designed to address the strain on existing power transmission infrastructure and reduce the likelihood of power outages and voltage fluctuations.
Reliable power supply
Commissioning the solar plant, the Chief Executive Officer of the BPA, Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, said the project would drive socio-economic development by utilising natural resources to generate energy in a safe, reliable and cost-efficient manner for residents of the enclave.

He explained that the plant would significantly improve the electricity supply and provide enhanced, reliable and cost-effective power to the national grid.
Beyond that, he said it would go a long way to reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of clean energy.
“This project forms part of the government’s mission of scaling up renewable energy penetration to 10 per cent by 2030. Local businesses will be stimulated and new investments will be attracted to the area and the region at large,” Mr Dzamesi added.
The Bui Power Authority CEO further stated that the project had already brought numerous benefits to the local community and the broader region as it had created employment opportunities during the construction phase, with more youth engaged in the operational phase.
He announced plans to add another 40MW solar plant to the existing 55MWp solar facility at Bui to further increase power supply, stating “Our aim is to build 250 megawatts of solar plants nationwide to reduce carbon emissions”.
Commendation
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yendi, Ahmed Abubakari Yussuf, commended the BPA and the government for the initiative.
