Ebi Bright and Baba Sadiq out after re-collation of parliamentary results today

Two creatives, Baba Sadiq and actress, Ebi Bright may not make it to parliament next year after falling to win majority of the votes in their respective constituencies after re-collation of results by the Electoral Commission today.

Baba Sadiq, who had earlier being declared winner of Okaikoi Central with 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent MP, Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 14,949 votes failed to retain the lead position after re-collation.

Today’s results has Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, been declared the winner with 21,099 votes, retaining his seat in Parliament with Baba Sadiq securing 19,368 votes. The same fate happened to actress Ebi Bright who had earlier being declared winner for Tema Central seat  defeating Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a narrow margin of 118 votes. Bright secured 18,539 votes, while Forson garnered 18,421 votes with previous declaration.

However, the story has changed today with NPP’s Charles Forson securing 18,870 votes, while Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress, who was previously declared the winner, getting 18,815 votes. Baba Sadiq has accused the EC of fraudulent acts to favour the incumbent MP. 

The Electoral Commission (EC) commenced the re-collation and declaration of results for nine disputed constituencies in compliance with a court order.  (Read Meet the six Ghana entertainers going to Parliament)

The affected constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), as well as Techiman South (Bono East Region).  

The Accra High Court directed the EC to complete the collation process and declare the winners in accordance with electoral laws. It also instructed the Inspector-General of Police to ensure adequate security at the collation centres.
