Meet the six Ghana entertainers going to Parliament
The highly anticipated 2024 election in Ghana has officially come to an end. On December 9, 2024, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, declared John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the President-Elect.
This year's presidential and parliamentary elections saw some interesting twists, with entertainment personalities contesting for parliamentary seats in various constituencies.

Actress, Dzifa Gomashie has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South since January 7, 2021 and re-contested and won to go for a second term.
From the results declared as of now, there will be five entertainment personalities joining her in the next Parliament from January 7, 2025 to January 6, 2029.
Here they are:
John Setor Dumelo: Ayawaso West
Actor John Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. Contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo secured a win over incumbent MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, garnering 47,560 votes to Alhassan's 39,214 votes.
This marks Dumelo's second attempt at the seat, having previously contested against Alhassan in 2020. His victory is seen as a significant political shift in Ayawaso West, a constituency traditionally considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Musician Kwame A Plus: Gomoa Central
Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, won Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat election in the Central Region.

The musician-turned-politician, who contested as an independent candidate, secured 14,277 votes, defeating the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, by a margin of 2,640 votes .
Naana Eyiah Quansah garnered 11,637 votes, while other parliamentary candidates collectively polled 10,112 votes.
Baba Sadiq: Okaikwei Central
Baba Sadiq, a music entrepreneur-turned-politician, has made a successful debut in politics, winning the parliamentary seat in the Okaikwei Central Constituency.
Contesting on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Sadiq garnered 15,383 votes, narrowly defeating the incumbent MP, Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 14,949 votes.

However, it appears that Patrick Boamah is not ready to concede defeat just yet. He has issued a statement to challenge the election results in court. It remains to be seen how this will unfold, but for now, Baba Sadiq is basking in the glory of his hard-won victory after the EC declared him winner yesterday. Ebi Bright(Tema Central)
Actress Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious in the Tema Central Parliamentary election, defeating Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a narrow margin of 118 votes. Bright secured 18,539 votes, while Forson garnered 18,421 votes.
This win is significant for the NDC, as they've managed to unseat the NPP in this key constituency.

Ohene Kwame Frimpong (Asante Akyem North)
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, lost his seat to Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who ran as an independent candidate.
Mr Frimpong won decisively with 26,926 votes, while Mr Appiah-Kubi got 8,933 votes.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s candidate, Kofi Asamoah, got 2,469 votes.

Dzifa Gomashie
Incumbent Ketu South MP, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, beat the Presiding Member of the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Wisdom Petit Samuel Doe Haligah.
Representing the NDC, she overwhelmingly bagged Seventy-Eight Thousand Nine Hundred and Two (78,902) of the total valid votes cast while her opponent had Six Thousand and Thirty-Three (6,033).
