NDC rejects re-collated results in disputed constituencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly rejected the ongoing re-collation of results in the nine disputed constituencies.

Dr Tanko Rashid Computer, the party's Deputy Director of Elections and IT, declared that they would not accept any outcomes from the process.

"We are not going to accept it," Dr Computer, who stormed the re-collation centre at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the EC, emphasised.

"We won't accept every bit of things that is going to happen here. That's the position of the party," he told journalists at the centre.

The NDC's rejection comes as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won five out of the nine constituencies declared so far, including Obuasi East, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano North, Tema Central, and Okaikwei Central.

Dr. Computer asserted that the NDC would overturn any results deemed unlawful, adding that electoral officers responsible for discrepancies would be held accountable. "Anything that they have done here, we will overturn it," he said. "And officers will answer questions," he added.

Background

The Electoral Commission (EC) commenced the re-collation and declaration of results for nine disputed constituencies in compliance with a court order.

The affected constituencies include Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region), Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East (Ashanti Region), Dome-Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central (Greater Accra Region), as well as Techiman South (Bono East Region).

The Accra High Court directed the EC to complete the collation process and declare the winners in accordance with electoral laws. It also instructed the Inspector-General of Police to ensure adequate security at the collation centres.

The re-collation exercise is ongoing at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the EC under tight police and military security.
