Ghana Music Honours

Spectacular performances filled the Club Beer Ghana Music Honours which was held last Friday at the National Theatre as part of activities of the Ghana Music Week Festival.  

Probably topping the list was good old Kwadwo Akwaboah who scored very high points with his performance. 

He has a great sense of humour and insisted that everyone sang along as he performed some of his very popular songs.

He lit up the entire auditorium as he invited his son, Akwaboah Jnr to join him on stage. It was a moment to cherish as Smart Nkansah joined  later and also took over to do his own thing. 

It was obvious that, he took the audience down memory lane and they enjoyed every bit of it judging from their reaction.

VVIP proved that they were still a force to reckon with as they did songs by the hiplife grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone, VVIP and their very own Selfie. Clearly, the visibly charged audience enjoyed all the songs as they sang and danced along.

If anyone thought that Rev. Thomas Yawson had lost his steam, they should have been at the National Theatre because he was indeed in his elements. He moved everyone to the extent that he was joind on stage by some members of No Tribe and Gifty Osei.

With his evergreen Se Mete Ase, there was no way gospel artiste, Noble Nkestia was not going to get everyone to sing along with him when he took his turn on stage.

There were other performances by the likes of Tic Tac, Stone of Bradez fame, Raquel and Ben Brako. Stone seemed a bit out of place considering the kind of high profile performances that had preceeded him.

Even before all the above-mentioned performances, the King Shabo band had warmed the stage adequately for what turned out to be a thrilling encounter.

The night itself was for awards and rightly so, musicians and stakeholders who has contributed to the music industry over the years were duly honoured by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA)

One of the most prominent awards on the night,  the President's Choice Honour  went to the Editor of Graphic Showbiz, Nanabanyin Dadson. This reporter watched on with pride as the visibly humbled Nanabanyin walked up to collect his award which he dedicated to behind-the-scenes Graphic staff such as proofreaders, designers and printers whose names never appear in publications.

The message from the sponsors Club Beer was badly timed as time was far spent, thank goodness it was a brief one.

On the whole, the programme was well packaged except that it dragged and had some people leaving before it came to a close after 1am. 

MCs were Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) and Root Eye but honestly KOD alone could have steered affairs as the latter didn't bring much to bear on the show.
