Highlife steals night at MUSIGA ball
Exciting evening of celebrating Ghanaian music and honouring music legends for their contribution to the growth of the industry.
Since 2012 when it was launched, the MUSIGA Grand Ball has become a gathering for not just musicians but the corporate world and a major fund raiser for the Musicians Union of Ghana. This year’s event, according to President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour, was to raise funds to support the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWef). The fund was established to support musicians above 60 years and those incapacitated as well.
“The Grand Ball seeks to provide a networking opportunity for the corporate world to enjoy the best of Ghanaian music,” Obour said in his welcome address.
For the past three years, the Grand Ball has been used as a major fund raiser and this year’s was no different. Ibrahim Mahama of Engineers and Planners was the highest bidder on the day when he bought a guitar by Nana Kwame Ampadu for GH¢50,000.
The EIB Network led by Nathan Anokye Adisi popularly known as Bola Ray also bought a Saxophone owned by Jerry Hansen of Ramblers band fame for GH¢30,000. A Seprewa by Osei Korankye was also bought at a fee of GH¢5,000.
The occasion was also used to acknowledge the contribution of some personalities to the music industry and this year, the lucky three honoured with the Music Pillar awards were Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, Dr. Kwabena Duffour and Dr. Ernest Ofori-Sarpong.
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts, Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, launched the Comprehensive Study on Music Sector, a research on the origin of Ghanaian music.
Also, a comedy segment by DKB was enough to say this year’s MUSIGA Grand Ball was a good one.
However the uncomfortable heat due to the malfunctioning of the air-conditioners nearly took the shine off it.
