Iyk Wonder torches the African light

Peace, a familiar word in Africa, has become a “rare commodity” and many have been on tenterhooks when the issue of elections comes up. As Ghana draws closer to its elections, many musicians have devised their own means of ensuring a violent free environment.

Music as a tool has been used to propagate this peace agenda and one such artiste who is committed to the cause of peace in Ghana and the African continent is Iyk Wonder.

The Ghana based Nigerian artiste has summed up his feelings in his new song, African Light, which features Ball J.

For one who is committed to the African liberation from the “shadow rule” of Western World, Iyk Wonder, born Isaac Ambrose believes the latter have been the cause of African instability.

“It’s an election year in Ghana and the world is looking up to Ghana to maintain the peace we are enjoying. Should Ghanaians indulge in any violence, the country will be the losers because that is when our white folks will come and explore us to their benefit under the guise of aid,” he told Showbiz in an interview on Monday.

A conscious song as he describes it, African light praises the struggles of some Pan African leaders such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Mandela and Nigeria’s Nnamdi Azikiwe for the liberation of the African continent.

Their struggles, Iyk Wonder says, shouldn’t be in vain since they were dedicated to peace and tranquillity of the continent and that can’t be toyed with by this generation.

“Our forefathers have fought a good fight and we must keep that inheritance. If Ghana and Africa can be a peaceful place, it is up to Africans and not foreigners as our new crop of leaders are portraying. Africa can also develop without the interference of the Western World,” he said with passion.

Iyk Wonder who hails from Abra state has been honing his skills as a musician back in Nigeria when he started this journey in 2003. His quest to find “greener pastures” in his music career found him in Ghana in 2008.

“Music spirit in Ghana is very strong and the success stories of my brothers, Patoranking, Mr Ezi and Flavour is a testament to it,” he said.

The fifth child of six boys, the Afro Pop artiste who is currently signed on to Record Label KB Empire Entertainment assured his fans of the release of his African album by the end of the year. Already, he is out with Supa bet which features Ennwa of Dobble fame. 

He hopes to attract the warm reception of Ghanaians as he makes his way to stardom after being featured on a number of songs including Kwaw Kese’s Masa Abeg and Guru’s Baba God.
