Pastor Joseph Gyebi sings ‘Ye Sore Wo’

There is an increasing leaning in this country these days,  towards the contemporary approach to  gospel music  widely christened ‘Urban Praise & Worship’ and Pastor Joseph Gyebi’s new single titled Ye Sore Wo grooves along that path.

Written by Pastor  Gyebi and recorded and produced by KODA at the KODED Studios in Takoradi, Ye Sore Wo is a brave attempt to blend elements of present-day  popular music with traditional Ghanaian musical traits, while still upholding the goodness and greatness of God.

Though Ye Sore Wo takes off with sounds of elephant tusk horns that give way to a funky strain imbedded with Yaa Amponsh-like highlife guitar touches.  The song then rolls into a  well-arranged jumpy, danceable piece that lifts the name of God high.

A full-time doctoral student  in Theology student at the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture at Akropong in the Eastern Region, Pastor Gyebi’s music ministry is underlined by his passion to see souls come to Christ and enjoy a fruitful relationship with Him.

Pastor Gyebi started singing in his final year at Mfanstipim School in Cape Coast. His years at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) saw him perform lead vocals for a number of campus-based  outfits.

He was the leader of Da Project group which recorded a single titled Let Us Reconcile.

Mentored by fine musicians like Ace & Josephine Anan-Ankomah, Danny Nettey, Oko Bortei-Doku and others, Pastor Gyebi’s debut solo album, Songs of the Cross, came out in 2007.

He serves as an associate pastor and worship leader at the Covenant Family Community Church, a Bible-believing inter-denominational church in Accra.

He has sang at a variety of Christian music programmes across the country and abroad. He loves to bring a contemporary edge to his music and Ye Sore Wo is a fine example of the boldness with which he tackles his music ministry.
