Mahama inspects roads, school projects and airport site on Bono tour

President John Dramani Mahama has continued his Bono Region Community Engagement Tour with inspections of key infrastructure projects, including roads, school facilities and a proposed airport site.

The second day of the tour follows his visit to Dormaa Ahenkro, where he cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour model market.

24-hour market to boost local economy

The market project, which forms part of the government’s commitment to enhancing trading activities and boosting local economies, is expected to provide a modern and secure trading environment for traders and the wider community.

Addressing the gathering, President Mahama expressed confidence in the government’s management of the economy, stating that the Ghanaian cedi had been strengthened to withstand external shocks.

He assured that the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel would not have a brutal impact on the country’s economy.

School and road inspections

On Thursday, March 19, the President continued his tour in Sunyani with a series of project inspections and public engagements.

He began by inspecting ongoing Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects at Sunyani Senior High School, where he assessed the progress of infrastructure development aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.

He then moved on to review construction works on the Sunyani Outer Ring Road, a critical project expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance transportation within the municipality.

Airport project to drive investment

As part of his tour, President Mahama also visited the proposed site for the new Sunyani Airport, a strategic infrastructure initiative expected to boost economic activity, improve connectivity, and open up the Bono Region for increased investment and tourism.

Citizen engagement and job support

The President is currently engaging residents and stakeholders at the University of Energy and Natural Resources as part of his “Resetting Ghana” Citizen Engagement series.

The forum provides an opportunity for him to account directly to the people, outline his government’s development agenda, and receive feedback from citizens.

Later in the day, President Mahama is expected to present grants to 475 beneficiaries under the Adwumawura Programme, a flagship initiative designed to support entrepreneurship, job creation and youth empowerment across the country.
