Bono Region: President Mahama inspects key projects, urges contractors to speed up work
President John Dramani Mahama has undertaken an inspection tour of ongoing development projects in the Bono Region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the region.
The projects inspected include the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) New Targeted and Emergency Projects (NTEmP) at Sunyani Senior High School.
School infrastructure upgrade
The projects at the school include the construction of a modern classroom block, a 12-seater washroom facility, and an ongoing science laboratory to facilitate practical teaching and learning.
Also under construction are two two-storey semi-detached staff flats to provide accommodation for teachers, as well as a two-storey, 12-unit science laboratory complex designed to expand access to science education for students.
The infrastructure projects, currently at various stages of completion, form part of a broader national effort to reduce the infrastructure deficit in second-cycle institutions.
When completed, they are expected to ease congestion, improve sanitation, and create a more conducive academic environment for both students and staff.
Call to expedite work
Addressing contractors and project managers during the inspection on Thursday, President Mahama urged contractors to expedite work to meet stipulated timelines.
He stressed that the timely completion of such projects was critical to delivering quality education and ensuring that students have access to the necessary facilities to support their academic development.
The President also used the occasion to interact briefly with school authorities, who highlighted the pressing need for improved infrastructure to accommodate the growing student population.
Security infrastructure boost
As part of his two-day tour of the region, President Mahama further inspected the newly inaugurated Bono Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau.
The facility serves as a central hub for signals intelligence and security coordination within the region.
It is expected to play a critical role in strengthening surveillance and rapid response mechanisms to address emerging security threats such as armed robbery, cybercrime, chieftaincy disputes, farmer–herder conflicts, and cross-border smuggling.
Security officials at the facility briefed President Mahama on its operations.
Road and airport projects
In addition, President Mahama toured the ongoing 34-kilometre Sunyani Outer Ring Road project, a major infrastructure initiative expected to improve traffic flow within the Sunyani Municipality and enhance connectivity to surrounding communities.
The road project is also anticipated to boost economic activity by facilitating the movement of goods and services across the region.
The President further inspected the proposed site for the new Sunyani Airport at Nsoatre in the Sunyani West Municipality.
The proposed airport is expected to enhance regional air transport, promote tourism, and attract investment into the region when completed.
