Africa Magic opens entries for 12th AMVCA, expands indigenous language categories

Africa Magic, in partnership with MultiChoice, a CANAL+ company, has opened entries for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, inviting filmmakers and content creators across the continent to submit their work for consideration.

Entries opened in early January and will close on Sunday, February 15, 2026, with eligible films and television productions required to have been broadcast or publicly screened between January 1 and December 31, 2025. The organisers say the initiative remains MultiChoice’s flagship platform for recognising and rewarding excellence in African film and television storytelling.

The 12th edition of the AMVCA is expected to once again highlight the rapid growth, creativity and global potential of Africa’s entertainment industry, while reinforcing the awards’ status as the continent’s most prestigious celebration of screen excellence.

This year’s awards are headlined by Don Julio as lead sponsor, a partnership that Africa Magic says reflects the continued evolution of the AMVCA into a premium and culturally influential platform that celebrates African creativity, craftsmanship and excellence.

As part of efforts to deepen its pan-African reach, the 12th AMVCA introduces new Indigenous Language categories, with the addition of Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa. According to the organisers, the expansion underscores the awards’ commitment to pan-Africanism, cultural preservation and equitable representation of the continent’s diverse creative voices.

The awards scheme will feature 32 categories, including 18 jury-decided awards and 11 audience-voted categories, alongside special recognition awards for Lifetime Achievement and a Trailblazer award. Feature-length films submitted for consideration must have been screened in cinemas, on linear television or on streaming platforms to qualify.

All submissions are to be completed online through the official AMVCA portal, with entrants required to upload full preview copies of their work as screened or broadcast. Africa Magic says detailed eligibility criteria and submission guidelines are available on its official website.

Renowned for its celebration of African talent, iconic red-carpet moments, fashion and cultural impact, the 12th AMVCA is expected to deliver another high-profile showcase of African film and television. The awards ceremony will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
