Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) celebrates 10th anniversary, announces global jury

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) themed, “The Relevance of Film in Society.”

As Africa experiences a surge in youth population and seeks new avenues for economic expansion, the theme underscores film’s vital role in job creation, investment attraction, and public enlightenment.

And in line with its commitment to promote African film, BSIFF has announced a 19 member global jury headed by Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills, former Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana and President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association.

Mr Sunkwa-Mills, who is a member of the Media Commission of Ghana brings a wealth of experience and vision to the festival's adjudication process.

This year’s jury spans Africa, Europe, and North America, reflecting the festival’s growing global stature and commitment to diverse perspectives.

Filmmakers submitting to BSIFF can look forward to an internationally respected and dynamic judging panel.

Mr. Sunkwa-Mills emphasized the significance of the festival’s decade-long journey, commending Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, the founder of BSIFF, for her remarkable contributions to the creative sector.

“All credit should go to the founder for the incredible impact over the past decade. Kudos to the various teams who have led the festival through what has not been an easy journey.”

“The aim of the jury is to elevate the festival even more this year, amplifying its influence in Africa and beyond while upholding the integrity and prestige of the Black Star International Film Festival. It is essential that our awards genuinely reflect excellence in filmmaking—from Africa to the world.”
