Burna Boy, Dua Lipa, are my target for global hit–Stay Jay
OFTEN when musicians take a break from their careers, they return with renewed energy and lofty aspirations to make a significant impact in the industry and Stay Jay is no different.
After years of silence, Stay Jay, born William Kojo Johnson, is making a comeback — and he's aiming for global attention. And he would love to do that working with Grammy-winning international icons such as English and Albanian musician Dua Lipa and Nigeria’s Burna Boy.
Stay Jay, once a dominant name in Ghana’s music scene with hits such as Shashee Wowo, Sue, Twaame Lala and Prepaid Gurl, quickly rose to prominence as a fan favourite.
But just as his star was beginning to shine brightest, he seemingly vanished from the limelight, leaving fans wondering what had become of one of the vibrant voices behind the Twi Pop movement.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz, Stay Jay, who seeks to re-establish himself and leave a lasting mark on the music scene, declared he’s not only back, but he is also ready for the global stage.
And his ambitions? Collaborating with English and Albanian musician Dua Lipa and Nigeria’s Burna Boy.
“I feel revitalised and inspired, and I believe the world is ready for new music that brings people together. And this is the perfect time to reintroduce myself.”
“I know there are so many talented artistes out there, but I’d love to collaborate with Dua Lipa or Burna Boy, as their styles resonate with me and would complement my music beautifully to seal my comeback.”
Stay Jay explained that his time away from the spotlight wasn’t idle. He used the period to recharge, evolve creatively and realign himself with the fast-changing dynamics of the global music industry.(Read Empress Gifty files GH₵20million defamation suit against Agradaa)
“I’ve been focusing on personal growth and honing my craft. I’ve been writing new materials, exploring different music styles and collaborating with other artistes to expand my horizons,” he shared.
