eShun snubs gospel calls
After the unprecedented success of Gospel artiste Joe Mettle at the recently held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), there have been calls on other artistes to venture into the genre to capitalise on the ‘windfall’.
One such artiste is Afro-pop songstress eShun who has been inundated with calls to “go Gospel” but in an interview with Showbiz, Eshun said she has no intentions of venturing into Gospel music at present adding that doing so will be a limitation to her.

“I believe being tagged a Gospel artiste is a limitation to my God given talent. If my music can reach over 7 billion people across the world, why do I want to limit my music and content to only about a billion people?” eShun quizzed.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz on Monday, the Fakye singer explained her reasons for ignoring calls to venture into the Gospel genre.
“I want my songs to impact the world. My objective is to impact the world with content that brings healing to the troubled minds, encouragement to the distressed and down hearted and correction to the wrong doer. My songs are not limited to any religious divide. I believe my calling is to every human soul,” she said.
She added that, “I believe you should be able to play my record next to Manifest, Sarkodie, Becca, Efya, Drake, Rihanna, Davido, Wizkid or anyone else. I don’t see why you can’t have hot beats and a crazy hook in your music if that is what will make everyone pay attention to good content.”
According to eShun, her current genre affords her the opportunity to reach out to more people of different backgrounds, beliefs and cultures while speaking on several inspiring topics for the upliftment of the soul and the development of a positive society
She however added that as much as her faith in God was total and unwavering; her calling was not only to preach Christ or feed Christian souls, but as well to stir up hope and passion through music to people of all walks of life in service to God.

“I have a clear understanding of what I want to achieve with my talent. I am doing inspiring content and music that is universal. I have no doubt at all that this is my purpose and path and I am glad I know my purpose because really what is life if you’re unsure of your purpose,” she added.
