“Frohliche Weihnachten”
Some of the carols sang at the event were Ihr Kinderlein Kommet (Ye Children, Come) and Ein Kleiner Weiber Schneeman (A Little White Snowman).
There was also a quiz competition on subjects that bordered on the history of Germany, German Chancellors, the celebration of Christmas by German-speaking Europeans as well as Christmas markets in Germany.
A third year student from the School of Translators at the Ghana Institute of Languages, Mawuyo Kofi Obidiaba, took the first prize for being the most outstanding atanswering the questions. Second place was taken by Mensah Komla Felix, also of the Ghana Institute of Languages.
The Country Director of the Association of German Language, Verein Deutsche Sprache and the Organizing Secretary of the GATG, Hayford Anyidoho later said that the event would be an annual affair to enhance the knowledge of Ghanaian students in the German language and also to entertain them as part of their Ghana-Germany cultural exchange programmes.
The winners were given were given T-shirts, German learning materials and souvenirs. The quiz was supported by the Goethe-Institut Ghana and the German Embassy in Ghana.
