I deserve artiste of the year - EL

“I don’t really care what people are saying out there. Well, for me, I think it is just a minority of the public who hold the opinion that I don’t deserve to be Artiste of the year and truthfully, they are entitled to that,” were the words of the koko hit-maker when he spoke with Showbiz on Tuesday.

For EL, the feeling of being the biggest artiste in the year under review is one “beyond the description of being blessed” but that feat, he said, didn’t come on a silver platter since he has been consistently working hard on his music career for the past six years.

And after six years, the Kaalu artiste believes he has worked hard and the “time was ripe” to be recognised for his great works. Hence, his previous works and particularly, that of  last year had boosted his confidence to clinch many awards as well as the top-most award when he stepped out for the biggest event to celebrate musicians.

“I knew I had put in a lot of effort in my work last year and was confident I was going to win the Artiste of the year, and that was the reason I announced I would be back everytime I mounted the stage to pick an award”, he said.

“I have worked very hard for this and the opinions of the minority won’t hinder me from celebrating this success,” he stated.

With his closest rival being Bisa Kdei, EL, real name, Elom Adablah was a big winner on the night when he picked five awards - Producer of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Afro Pop Song of the Year,  Hipllife/ Hiphop Artiste and the Artiste of the Year .

He told Showbiz the diversity of the awards he picked is an indication that he is a multi-talented artiste who wasn’t restricted in exploring music.

“I was the only artiste who picked awards from different genres and background. I won as artiste and a producer as well and that for me is a plus,” he added.

His interest in music production began at a young age when he started rapping at the St. Martin de Porres School back in Junior High School.

After graduating from the University of Ghana, Legon, and completing his national service, the young artiste focused on his dream of producing songs and developed a musical style fusing R&B, hip-hop and other genres.

As a producer, he has worked with some renowned artistes such as V.I.P, Sarkodie, Trigmatic, Asem and  Tinny .

Last year, he released two mix-tapes and crowned it with his annual EL Bar concert which had all the big names in the music industry in attendance at the Trade Fair Centre.

For his admirers and critics as well, the Minaa Bo Po artiste says he is back in the studios to “cook sweet music for the soul”.

“There’s no time to play because I have to keep up the status of being the biggest Artiste in Ghana.  I will come back bigger and better next year,” he stated.
