I’m still the King, respect my name –King Promise claps back at critics

IN a bold and unapologetic response to his critics, Terminator hit-maker King Promise is challenging anyone who doubts his work ethic to point out a Ghanaian artiste who has worked harder than him to occupy the topmost spot in the industry.

Fresh off his biggest career milestone, winning the coveted Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year in May, the singer says he has earned every accolade through relentless effort.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, November 25, King Promise challenged his detractors to a comparison of work ethic, saying, "I've worked hardest as TGMA Artiste of the Year winner, and I'm proud of it.”

He dismissed claims that he had “gone quiet” since securing the top honour.

“There is this agenda by some detractors to water down my efforts with the claim that I’ve been silent since winning Artiste of the Year. Really? First of all, they should shush! And then go and find out what King Promise is doing,” he said.

The CCTV singer said he has solidified his position as Ghana's hardest-working musician in 2025, with a string of impressive achievements.

King Promise highlighted a long list of accomplishments since May, beginning with his True To Self USA Tour, where he performed to packed venues in major cities such as New York, Boston, and Los Angeles, showcasing his growth as a global artiste.

His collaboration with Nigeria’s Mr Eazi on See What We've Done, in September has garnered millions of streams across digital platforms.

He said his global footprint expanded further with his return to Asia, performing in Thailand and deepening connections with fans in the region.

That isn’t all, beyond music, King Promise also entered the fashion arena this year. He attended Paris Fashion Week, strengthening ties with international creatives and tastemakers. (Read Inna Patty called to the Bar of England and Wales)

In November, he said he collaborated with Chelsea Football Club, filming content at Stamford Bridge, a dream moment for a dedicated Chelsea supporter and drawing inspiration from legends such as Michael Essien.

“I’ve been in this game for long to know how people will just rubbish your hard work because you aren’t their favourite. However, this time, I don’t want it to be a noisy debate but one backed with figures and facts.

“Presently, my song with Mr Eazi has 2.3 million YouTube views, 2.6 million Spotify streams, and 1.5 million Apple Music streams. I performed in Thailand in September; there are pictures to show how successful it was,” he said.

King Promise won the ultimate Artiste of the Year at this year’s TGMA hosted at the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday, May 10.

He beat a stiff competition from top contenders, King Paluta and Stonebwoy, to clinch the ultimate prize.

In addition to Artiste of the Year, he also took home Best AfroPop Song, Best AfroPop/Afrobeats Song and Album/EP of the Year awards.

A devoted Chelsea FC supporter with a strong focus on fitness and wellness, King Promise collaborated with the club, spending time at Stamford Bridge and filming content tied to his new song. The video has been shared across Chelsea’s official social channels.

With such a full year, he believes the ongoing attempts to downplay his achievements are unfair and baseless and asked his critics to put some respect on his name since he is still the reigning King of Ghana music, not only by awards but evident through his works in the year under review.

“My new song, Bad Habits featuring Davido, is already making waves. I have worked hard to get here so people should respect my sweat and name,” he added.
