Last Saturday, Miss Lucy Adwoa Osei-Pokuaa Yeboah was crowned winner of the Ms Ghana USA beauty pageant which came off at the Brooklyn Music School in the United States.

The event, which was held as part of Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary, also saw Miss Janart Addo Fareed and Miss Elsie Abena Okoh-Addo grabbing the second and third positions respectively. They all went home with crowns, textiles and Kente cloths.

Also, Brong-Ahafo Region’s Miss Jennifer Barimah won The Peoples’ Choice Award, Miss Photogenic, went to Nana Opoku-Mensah from the Eastern Region and Miss Congeniality was grabbed by Miss Sandra Amponsah.

In a telephone interview with Showbiz, supporting judge, Mrs. Afua Sam, described this year’s pageant as the most difficult, “With many talented contestants this year, it was very difficult to select a winner. All the girls were beautiful, intelligent, cultured and smart."

She said all contestants wore Kente for the opening and evening gown scenes, exhibiting the quality and awesome endowment of Ghanaian designs.

Activities on the night which were judged by Mrs. Benita Bortey and Mr. Carlson Crocker, president of the Brooklyn music school included talent hunt, swim-wear, evening gown and catwalk competition.

Questions on education, strength of a woman, sanitation, and culture and women empowerment were answered during the question and answer segment.

In a speech, Gloria Opare-Garcia, founder of the pageant applauded the girls for availing themselves to be used as agents of change in society.

“I want to thank you girls for taking a step to change society. As we bring the event to an end, I want to urge you to keep doing you, never let anyone disrupt your vision and aim.

“Go out there and change society. Be the mouth piece for the speechless, never lose your sense of culture and confidence,” she said bringing the night to an end.

The night was climaxed with an after party.
