Mr Merror comes shining with Abusua

When Louis Francis Kwei Ga-va, better known as Mr Merror dropped his four-track EP early this year, he knew he had eventually set himself off on the cherished road of being relevant to society through his lyrics and rhythms.

It is ‘Abusua’ featuring King Palma, one of the tracks in the collection that seems to have caught attention. Mr Merror is glad the song has struck a chord with people due to its vital comments on our family structures and how we treat folks, sometimes unjustifiably, according to their social and financial status.

“I like to carry along all age groups with my music. Some issues concern everybody so they all appreciate matters that point out some of our miscalculations and suggestions on how we can rectify them for a happier existence,” says Merror.

Other tracks on the EP are ‘Yeebre’ featuring Asanqoma, ‘Me Nua’ featuring Hans Becks and  ‘Nyanyo’ featuring Adane Best. They all tackle relationships and the human condition from a variety of angles, stressing that people need to live in peace with each other and help themselves whenever necessary.

He says it was a wonderful experience collaborating with Adane Best whom he had admired for a long time. He regards the man as a role model in a lot of ways and he is looking forward to reaching or even surpassing the heights Adane Best has attained so far.

According to Mr Merror, though he describes himself as a Highlife artiste, he is a versatile act and people realise it when they see him perform. He does not enjoy ascribing ‘titles’ to himself, a habit he says rather confuses music lovers as to the real capabilities of artistes.

Mr Merror has been involved with a number projects this year. They include performing at various Homowo-related programmes in the nation’s capital, an appearance at the GaDangbe Bi Yoo pageant and participation in the recent Goethe Institut-sponsored workshop to get young acts to use more traditional Ghanaian rhythms in their music.

“The Goethe Institut workshop is one of the best I have ever attended. Practically, it was extremely useful. I came away with a lot of knowledge and wisdom. I must admit it has helped open up my mind on which directions to take my music.”

Mr Merror is working on new material which would further strengthen his brand as a socially-conscious act that stands up for what is right and seeks to spread peace at all times. In the meantime, he is promoting ‘Abusua’ as the track everyone must listen to as we try to create strong family ties and genuine respect for each other.
