MTN’s feast of music and great performances
Over the last few years, the annual MTN Nine Lessons and Carols has become a favourite platform for musicians to showcase their prowess at performing Christmas carols, beside their own works.

This year’s event which took place at the Accra International Conference Centre last Friday, December 16 was no exception, as star after star served the audience with delectable “cocktail” of either their own songs or impressive rendition of Christmas carols either in their original form or made to reflect the stars’ own signature and style.
The headline act on the night, the vintage Daughters of Glorious Jesus came to the party with all the verve and energy they have reserved over the years.
Cynthia, the lead singer was as impressively agitated as she has ever been, cavorting the stage, dancing and leading the charge like the energetic youth she was decades ago.
The other two members of the trio, Monica and Edna were as active as they have always been, delivering the backing vocals with panache to contribute to Cynthia’s powerful voice to make their songs as harmonious as ever.
The Dansoman Youth Choir and the trio’s own band were on hand to complete the ensemble and for well-nigh an hour, they performed some of the great songs from their repertoire while working the crowd to sing along, dance along and do whatever they could to express their joy to the Lord.
Another great artiste from the old school, Paulina Oduro gave a great account of herself after which she was joined by Bessa Simons, another oldie, to complete an amazing rendition of Christmas carols.
The Accra Symphony Ochestra is writing its name very well in the book of live performances in Ghana and last Friday gave it another opportunity to show class. Its operatic renditions of O’ Holy Night and other carols were awesome. The entire AICC was vibrating during its performance and the audience loved it.

You may have heard of and seen the performances of the Winneba Youth Choir and the Tema Youth Choir, but the Dansoman Youth Choir gave itself some great points when it mounted the stage to perform its own rendition of carols. One of the biggest songs in 2016 is Solo, which has made it performer, Article Wan a household name on the music calendar. Article Wan mounted the stage with the Christmas carol The First Noel, which he made in his own style and performed greatly. It was one of the best performances on a night of great performances.
Gospel artiste Ceccy Twum’s performance of O Come Let Us Adore Him was done in her amazingly mellifluous voice, MzVee managed to hit the high notes when she performed O’ Holy Night before inviting Adjetey Annang(Pusher) to join her perform Felis Navidad, Nana Perbi’s trade mark energetic performances was seen once again and MTN’s in-hour choir showed awesome class with their performances.
One of the highlights of the night was when Kwaw Kesse arrived on the stage on a brown horse while dressed like Santa Claus. His entry was heralded by actress Lydia Forson. He performed a few carols in his own style before giving way to the headline performers.
The production of MTN Carols Night was greatly done with no hiccup whatsoever. The set design was pragmatic and relevant for the type of show and the screens helped to dial up interaction as people saw their tweets projected and could see the names of the artistes as they performed.
There were the nine lessons interspersed throughout the performances and read by different people including a security man at MTN, satirist KSM and Graphic Business’ Deputy Editor and Dean of Network of Communications Reporters Charles Benoni Okine.
MC for the night, Lexis Bill’s performance was great, just like everyone else who did anything on the night.
