Namibia endeavours to be a preferred tourist destination in Africa

With recent records showing that tourism has become the world's third-largest export industry, it is little wonder that many African countries including Namibia are taking giant steps to promote and boost their tourism potentials.

It is in this regard that players in the Namibian Tourism industry including its Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Lucia Lipumbu have held a workshop in Ghana to sell their country as a great tourist destination in Africa.

The capital, Windhoek, and coastal town Swakopmund contain German colonial-era buildings such as Windhoek's Christuskirche, built in 1907. “Our coming here is to cement ties to promote Namibia as the next tourism destination in Africa and the world. We are aware that Ghanaians are traveling to Dubai, Kenya, etc. but they are missing out on a great secret that is hidden and untapped.

“That gem is Namibia. For us, tourism is one of the major economic sectors. It is also a sector that is destined to grow. We have more than enough reason to develop new emerging markets through engaging smart partnership joint marketing initiatives,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Namibian Tourism Board, Digu Naobeb, explained that Namibia offered many opportunities for tourists to experience traditional lifestyles, untouched landscapes, unique cultures, and diverse wildlife.
