Oak Plaza honours Amandzeba

The premises of the Oak Plaza Hotel on the Spintex Road in Accra came alive last Friday, August 4 when the outfit collaborated with MTN to honour highlife star, Amandzeba.

The occasion, which was to celebrate the musician as a living legend for his great contribution to the nation’s music industry, brought together people from all walks of life.

According to the Managing Director of Oak Plaza, Mr. John Maddison, Amandzeba was a true legend who needed to be celebrated while alive.

“He is one of the people who has kept and lived the Ghanaian tradition as far as music is concerned.  We will not wait for him to pass on before we honour him. He deserves this. We are grateful to MTN for coming on board to do this with us,” he said.

For Amandzeba’s honour, he was given a Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone and a key to the Oak Plaza in the symbol of a horse, which meant he was free to ‘gallop’ in there at any time to do whatever he wanted.

Hosted by GHOne’s George Quaye, Amanadzeba took to the stage to express his gratitude.

“I am really excited about this gesture.  We live in a country where we wait for people to die before they are honored but here I am, alive and being celebrated. I am grateful.  I thank my family for rallying behind me.”

The well-loved musician then went on to treat patrons to some of his songs which pulled the guests to dance.

Musicians at the event to express solidarity with Amandzeba included Diana Hopeson, Adane Best, Gyadu Blay Ambolley, Klala and Ibrahim. They all performed at various stages in the programme, backed by the Native Orchestra Band.

Real name Nat Brew, Amandzeba is known for the uniqueness of his music which has won him awards, including the ultimate prize at the 7th International Alphine festival held in Saas Fee in Switzerland.

His ability to fuse local languages such as Ga, Hausa and Fante in his music is outstanding. Some of his well-known songs are Ama, Dede, Kpanlogo and Wogbe Jeke.
