Obaapa Christy unveils Royal Praise concert

After 24 years in gospel music, celebrated gospel musician, Obaapa Christy has officially launched her maiden headline event, Royal Praise, joining the growing list of gospel artistes who have established annual flagship concerts to connect with their audiences through worship and praise.

The launch of Royal Praise took place on Friday, June 12, at Alisa hotel, marking a milestone in the singer's illustrious music career which spans more than two decades and has produced several hit songs and impactful career moments.

The maiden edition of Royal Praise will be staged in both Accra and Kumasi, bringing together some of Ghana's most celebrated gospel ministers for a unique worship experience. The Accra edition is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the UPSA Auditorium and will feature Empress Gifty, Joyce Blessing, Uncle Ato, Celestine Donkor, Akesse Brempong and Kwaku Gyasi.

The Kumasi edition will follow on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at The Church of Pentecost, Bantama, with Brother Sammy, Mama Esther, Ernest Opoku, Joyce Blessing, Quame Gyedu and Lady Prempeh joining Obaapa Christy in worship.

Royal Praise adds to notable gospel gatherings such as Joe Mettle's Praise Reloaded, Diana Hamilton's Awake Experience, Piesie Esther's Flora Made By Grace Concert, Empress Gifty's Resurrection Effect, and Ohemaa Mercy's Tehillah Experience, among others.

Speaking at the launch, Obaapa Christy revealed that the idea for the concert was conceived years ago following her 20th anniversary celebration in 2022.

“My team and I decided after my 20th anniversary celebration that it was time to establish a flagship event that would bring believers together for an unforgettable experience of worship and praise. We started planning towards it, and I am excited that after four years of preparation and prayer, Royal Praise is finally becoming a reality,” she said.

According to her, patrons attending the event are expected to dress in royal apparel to reflect the biblical declaration in 1 Peter 2:9, which describes people of Christian faith as a chosen generation and a royal priesthood.

“Royal Praise is not just another concert. It is a gathering of kings and queens before the King of Kings. It is an opportunity for people to experience God's power, love and grace through worship.

“We want everyone who attends Royal Praise to come dressed as royalty because that is who we are in Christ. The dress code is inspired by 1 Peter 2:9. We are God's chosen people, a royal priesthood, and we want the atmosphere to reflect that identity," she explained.
