Patch Bay and friends take over Gold Coast Restaurant and Bar on Saturday
With nearly two decades of experience entertaining crowds at various events nationwide, the Patch Bay Band is set to make history with its inaugural headline concert.
Typically, the band has performed as guests or backing musicians for other musicians. But on Saturday, July 26, they'll take center stage at the Gold Coast Restaurant and Bar in Accra, marking a milestone moment in their career.
Philip Acquah, the 2017 TGMA Instrumentalist of the Year and leader of the Patch Bay Band, expressed his excitement in an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, July 22, about the band's upcoming concert.
Hosting their own concert has been a long-held dream for the band, driven by fan requests over the years. According to Acquah, this event is an opportunity for the band to connect with their fans on a deeper level.
Although the band has experience with stage performances, they're pulling out all the stops to ensure patrons have a memorable time.
Acquah hinted that the concert will feature original songs from their upcoming EP, promising a unique experience for fans.
“We have grown a strong fan base, which we didn’t expect, and this has been a pending request from our fans. We will be performing original songs from our upcoming EP, which we intend releasing soon, with another concert in December. We will also perform popular dance songs in our renditions to entertain our guest and to get them on the dance floor,” he said.
Akwaboah, Lamisi and Becca, who have all had stints with the band, will mount the stage to perform some of their hit songs.
The lineup for the concert is set to dazzle, with Nene and Fiifi Bissue taking the stage to woo the audience with their enchanting voices and acoustic guitar performances.
Poetry enthusiasts will be treated to a display of wordplay by Nana Asaase and Timmy, while longtime friend of the band comedian Foster Romanus will bring his signature humour to the table at the event starting at 8:00pm.
According to Mr Acquah, who is also the music director, Saturday’s concert marks the beginning of similar events they want to have across the country.
Membership of Patch Bay at the moment is TGMA instrumentalist of the year 2018, Dominic Quarchie (guitar), TGMA instrumentalist of the year 2021, Nana Yaw Safo (drums), Derrick Oduro (bass), Benjamin Nii Armah (percussion), Bright Sarpong (keyboard) and Yaw Moore (sequencer).
The band has Beryl Stephenson, Pearl Ellis, Deborah Adjei Daakyehemaa) and Nii Barrow as lead vocals, with Frank Amankwaa (Kwaku Future) as the lead vocalist.
