Second daylight shooting in a week rocks Kumasi’s Asawase
Another man has been shot dead in broad daylight at Sabon Zongo in Kumasi’s Asawase constituency, marking the second fatal shooting in the area within a week by unknown assailants riding motorbikes.
The assailants, reportedly on a motorbike, shot the yet-to-be-identified man just as he was about to enter his vehicle near OTEC FM in Sabon Zongo close to the Manhyia roundabout.
This marks the second shooting incident in less than a week in the Asawase area by unidentified gunmen wielding AK-47 assault rifles and using motorbikes as their mode of transport.
The first fatal incident, which occurred on July 22, 2025 at Asawase F-Line near the Community Centre, claimed the life of Abdul-Malik Azenba, the Kusasi Chief in the Ashanti Region.
The assailants shot and killed the chief at his residence, also using an AK-47 rifle.
No arrests have been made yet. Friday’s incident has heightened fear and panic among residents of Kumasi, especially those living in Asawase and its surrounding areas.
A heavy police presence has been deployed in the area as a manhunt begins for the perpetrators. Empty shells retrieved from the crime scene by the police confirm that an AK-47 rifle was used in the attack.
