
DJ Awana of Adom FM passes on
The Ghanaian entertainment industry is in shock and mourning after the passing of renowned disc jockey, popularly known as DJ Awana of Adom FM. He died on Sunday after an illness.
There has been an outpour of tributes and condolences on social media following the announcement of the the death of DJ Awana, whose real name is Samuel Nartey.
Among those sharing tributes on social media include Kofi Donkor, husband and manager of gospel singer, Celestine Donkor.
Nana Poku Ashis, manager of highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena, paid a heartfelt tribute to DJ Awana, acknowledging his profound impact on the music industry.
Media personalities including Ohemaa Woyeje, and colleague, DJ Ashmen, also shared their condolences and praised the late DJ's remarkable career on their social media platforms.
Even though the cause of his death hasn’t been announced, it is said that DJ Awana has been hospitalised last week.
However, he had assured friends and colleagues who reached out to him that he was recuperating until the unfortunate news of his death.
DJ Awana launched his career in 2003 at Tema-based Adom FM, rapidly rising to prominence as a top figure in Ghana's radio and live event industries.
He later moved to Oman FM in 2007, before returning to the Multimedia Group to join Hitz FM, further solidifying his reputation as a talented and versatile DJ.
As part of his unique identity, DJ Awana was also well known for his signature jingle, “3y3 Awana nie oo,” which became a familiar and cherished sound among his listeners.
