Rhyme Sonny is guest judge for World Bank programme

POET and Spoken word act, Rhyme Sonny has been named as a guest judge of the World Bank Youth Act on Education spoken word competition.

Rhyme Sonny together with other judges from World Bank Africa team, influencers and advisory board will have the task of screening and declaring five prize winners based on the set rules for the competition.

The competition forms part of the World Bank regional education strategy for Western and Central Africa.

It outlines priority  areas, guiding principles, and policy options to support countries in increasing access to education and improving the quality of learning over the next couple of years.

The strategy focuses on the common challenges within a highly diverse region and covers all the sub-sectors of education, including formal and informal, technical, and vocational education, as well as higher education.

Entries
The competition was launched last month and submissions for entries closed on Wednesday, July 20.

Entries for the competition was encouraging and participants are expected to be creative, inspiring, artistic in their one-minute video of themselves reciting their written poems to win prizes and also get featured on World Bank social media pages.

In a statement, World Bank's Youth Engagement Lead for Western and Central Africa, Ruti Ejangue said, “as a poet of note, we think your addition, not only in the art of spoken word, your interest in development and the topic of education in the region, will be profound in the judging process.”

Impact
Rhyme Sonny is a well-known spoken word artist and an advocate for the use of poetry as a tool for education and information.

The award-winning poet told Graphic Showbiz that he is looking at impacting participants with the vital knowledge to launch them into a bigger market.

“Poetry is growing in Africa and I’m excited to be part of the new wind blowing. I know it will be a platform to learn as well and I’m looking forward to the experience,” he said.
