Sports Minister explains $30m fundraising plan for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams has clarified the rationale behind ongoing fundraising efforts ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stating that the initiative goes beyond travel arrangements to also support ticket access for Ghanaians abroad.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Tuesday, April 28, he explained that the drive is intended to ensure strong Ghanaian representation at the tournament, particularly among diaspora communities who often face high ticket costs.
“The funds being raised are not only for transporting supporters, but also to help cover match tickets for Ghanaians in the diaspora who want to experience the tournament, especially given how expensive tickets are,” he said.
He further revealed that the fundraising target has been set at $30 million, underscoring the scale of the initiative.
The plan forms part of a broader strategy to mobilise support for the Black Stars while addressing financial barriers that limit fan participation at major international competitions.
With the tournament set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, rising travel and logistical costs are expected to pose challenges.
However, officials believe a well-structured funding approach will boost fan presence and morale as Ghana prepares for its fifth World Cup appearance.
