Sefa wins again though RTP flops

For the third time running, Peace FM’s Kwami Sefa Kayi was adjudged the Radio and TV Personality of the Year  at the Radio and Television Personality Awards (RTP) held last Thursday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

He also won the Radio Morning Show Host of The Year 2013 while his Kokrokoo show won the Radio Programme of The Year 2013.

The obviously elated but humbled Kwami thanked everyone for making it happen once again in a brief acceptance speech, ending with his favourite  phrase, “when you say a prayer, say one for me.”

Perhaps the only thing that went right on the night was the awards presentation component  because most of the award winners were present to receive their awards.

That aside, nothing went right for the organisers. The show which was supposed to start at 7.00pm started way after 11.00pm.

As if that was not enough, neither Kafui  Dey nor Mercy Johnson was present so the organisers settled for musician/actress Paulina Oduro as emcee.

She did not help to salvage the already bad situation and ended up getting on people’s nerves with her unnecessary comments.

It was almost as if all the artistes billed to perform on the night had gone on strike.

From the “serious’ man, Amakye Dede to Herty Borngreat to the young Tutulapatu – none of them showed up. The only act on the night was Cecilia Marfo who did an acappella versions of some of her songs.

There was also a comedian called Baba who managed to get the audience laughing for a while.

Entertainment wise, the show had nothing to offer and was nothing to write home about.

Undoubtedly, the whole idea of a radio and television personality awards is laudable but the organisers ought to put their act together if they want to be taken seriously otherwise they should stop wasting everybody’s time.
