Shakira, Burna Boy’s ‘Dai Dai’ becomes highest-charting World Cup song in history

Colombian superstar Shakira and Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy are making World Cup history with their collaborative song, ‘Dai Dai’, which has surpassed Shakira and Freshlyground’s iconic ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)’ on the Billboard Hot 100.

‘Dai Dai’ climbed 25 places this week to peak at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest-charting World Cup song in the history of the chart.

The feat sees the Shakira and Burna Boy collaboration move ahead of ‘Waka Waka’, which became one of the most recognisable World Cup songs following its release for the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

‘Dai Dai’ has also continued to make an impact beyond the United States, peaking at No. 3 on the Canadian Hot 100. The song is also in contention for the top spot on the UK Official Singles Chart this week.

The latest achievement comes as Billboard discontinues its World Digital Song Sales chart, with the final edition dated June 27, 2026.

The chart, which tracked digital song sales across international markets, had previously featured Nigerian artistes including Wizkid, Mr Eazi and Rema among those who topped the rankings.

The latest success of ‘Dai Dai’ further highlights the growing global appeal of African music and Shakira’s continued influence on the international music scene, while bringing together two major voices from Africa and Latin America.
