Stephanie is face of CUC 2016

On Saturday May 14 , the Trinity Hall on the Miotso campus of Central University (CUC) came alive as contestant number 10, Stephanie Oforiwah Asare, a level 200 student offering law was crowned Face of CUC 2016.

Akua Addobea Obuobi, a level 300 student offering Human Resource Management and Suzan Annette Peterside, a Nigerian in level 300 offering Communications Studies were adjudged first and second runners-up respectively.

After all the contestants had gone through an exciting choreography to introduce themselves to the judges and audience, Stephanie wowed the judges and audience with her very first performance on the night where she was dressed as a queen mother promoting patriotism and Ghana’s cultural heritage. She went on to move the audience to sing “yen ara ye asaase ni”.

In round two, Stephanie once again dazzled with her exquisite walk on the runway. Her partner for the fashion round, Dzifa Gordor, also did very well. The competition at this point was keen since all contestants were looking good with clothes from Abbi Creations and accessories provided by Wendy L’Artisane.

In the next round, the winner made a presentation on Trokosi.  She appeared very passionate about changing the things in our socio-cultural settings that impede the progress of women. She further outlined ways by which she would contribute to ending Trokosi and empowering women in general if she emerged the winner.

After the presentation of projects to embark on if they won the contest, all contestants lined up to receive special hampers from American Silky Hair. The stage was then set to receive special awards from Lexta Ghana Limited.

Theola Budu, a level 300 student offering marketing was Miss Photogenic while Miss Talent and Miss Eloquence went to the eventual winner, Stephanie. After an open vote on stage by all contestants, Miss Congeniality award was given to Doyinsola Osanyinbi, a Nigerian in level 300 offering Nursing.

Five contestants, Doyin, Rosaline, Stephanie, Akua and Suzan were chosen as the final five contestants. They answered questions from the judges after which the winners were declared and given hampers by Wilmar Africa Limited, producers of Frytol Cooking Oil and Fortune Rice.

The winner gets a scholarship to pursue a Masters Programme in China with tuition and accommodation fully paid for. Stephanie will also have the opportunity to work with an NGO on her chosen project work and a cash prize of GHc1, 500 from the SRC Women’s Commission.

The stage was super and all artistes billed for the night delivered to the excitement of the audience. Pappy Kojo was the toast of the ladies as they sang along his songs, hit after hit while Galaxy also graced the stage with a well-rehearsed group act. Dem Tinz, Eyoh among other artistes performed on the night.

Special awards such as Youth Mentorship Ambassador Award and Enterprising Youth Ambassador Award were given to Mr. John Kofi Appiagyei, MD for T Best and Jeba Naturals and Mr. Gideon Oyiadzo Jingles, Operations Director for Abba Investments respectively for their contributions to youth empowerment.

Prior to the contest, all contestants reached out to Dawhenya with a clean-up exercise, health screening and health education.

 

Face of CUC 2016 was organised by the SRC Women’s Commission of CUC with the support of Abba Investments on a five- year contract. The programme was sponsored by American Silky Hair, Latex Foam, Frytol, Fortune Rice, Yazz, Hooch Corn Flakes, T Best Aloevera Drink and Jeba Naturals.
