Top American gospel act for ‘Freedom Concert’
First-rate American songwriter, bassist, arranger, producer and vocalist, Fred Hammond, will be the headline act at a bash dubbed Freedom Concert on Saturday, March 15 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Organised by the Springs of Joy Ministry headed by Prophet Akwesi Agyeman Prempeh, the concert will also feature top Ghanaian gospel artistes such as Cwesi Oteng, Mary Ghansah, Joe Mettle, Ohemaa Mercy, Francis Amo and Soul Winners.
This country has in recent times been a well-liked destination for American heavyweight gospel musicians.
Those who have performed here over the last few years include Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Ron Kenoly and Donnie McClurkin.
Though also highly rated and full of accomplishments, Fred Hammond is yet to perform on Ghanaian soil.
The Freedom Concert organisers say he is eager to come over and share the word of God with believers.
“We hope to fill the Accra Stadium. Though it is his first time here, he is an inspirational character on stage,” said a member of the Springs of Joy organising team.
“I know his name rings a bell with many lovers of good gospel music here and we are looking forward to a great time with him.”
Fred Hammond, referred to by many as the ‘Babyface’ of gospel, has been around music for over 33 years and is known in high industry circles in the USA and beyond as an extremely gifted fellow.
He has racked up numerous awards and nominations including the Grammy and BET and sold over eight million albums with his Commissioned and Radical for Christ groups.
