Versatile Show cast insured
In an unprecedented move to help elicit the best from the cast of the Versatile Show slated for Saturday, November 8, at the National Theatre, Phoenix Insurance Company has insured the 70 performers scheduled to be on stage for the production titled, The Beggars.
The show’s producers say the private limited liability insurance outfit has agreed to provide an insurance cover of GH¢ 350, 000 for the entire cast. Each member is therefore insured to the tune of GH¢5,000.
The Versatile Show is a mix of music, magic, comedy, dance, drama and poetry presentation written by Okyeame Kwame.
The cast includes Wanlov Kubolor, Adjetey ‘Pusher’ Anang, Ecow Smith-Asante, Samini, Bradez, Edem, EL, Keche, Adina and Noyam Dance Institute.
Activities in The Beggars, the producers say, involve a fair amount of climbing, jumping and body rolling which could put the health of the cast at risk.
“That was why we needed to get an insurance company that clearly understood the issues at stake and we are happy Phoenix came along,” a source to the show stated.
The production, according to Okyeame Kwame, is called The Beggars because though some of the key characters in there don’t necessarily sit by the roadside and beg, their overall conduct give them away as beggars in disguise.
“It’s a satire about us and how we have programmed ourselves to beg for things we don’t need to,” says Okyeame Kwame.
