Free SHS: Is Napo a lone Wolf in the jungle?

The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has been left alone by government and New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicators as he is all by himself talking about the government's flagship programme, the Free Senior High School (SHS) education.

The programme which has generated lots of interest both within and outside Ghana is doing well, although, it has some challenges.

Interestingly, both government and party have not been able to dwell on the better side of the programme and have left the minister all alone to be talking about the Free SHS.

The current situation is making things to look as if the need to tell the good story of the programme is the sole responsibility of the Minister of Education.

In his resolve to make the programme succeed, Dr. Prempeh inadvertently has stepped on certain toes and as expected of both government and party communicators to defend the minister, he was left to fight alone.

It is instructive to know that the success or otherwise of the Nana Akufo-Addo administration would be measured by how the Free SHS becomes successful.

It is becoming obvious that certain characters within government and the NPP are not so much enthused with the placing of Dr. Prempeh in charge of the government’s flagship programme as some heavyweights of the party have openly spoken about the challenges associated with the Free SHS.

Be as it may, collective responsibility must come to play because the Free SHS is not a product of the Education Minister, but rather a product that was designed by the NPP and sold to Ghanaians that contributed in no small way to the victory of the party in the 2016 elections.

Any attempt to sabotage the Education Minister from within government and party is same as sabotaging the President and his government.

Government and party communicators should reorient themselves and market Free SHS because when the programme fails, the whole party and government fail.

The success of Free SHS is not the fight for Dr. Prempeh but for the whole government, party and the nation at large.

It is therefore important for government and party communicators to take up the fight and make Free SHS a success story.
