DStv price hikes

A notice popped up on my television screen with an announcement from the channel of a price increase on my Compact Plus bouquet to GH¢570 cedis from GH¢495 cedis beginning the first of April, 2025.

Apart from the 48-hour notice, one is surprised at the fact that there is no more value-for-money in the service MultiChoice provides to warrant price hikes.

Here is a digital channel that regurgitates movies and documentaries dating back 25 to 30 years or more day in, day out.

The only current ones are the news and some sports channels.

In addition to this, as soon as there are clouds in the sky their signals go off.

Can MultiChoice tell their clients if the regulator is consulted before their prices are increased?

If they do, does the regulator consider the service provided before allowing these price hikes?

We have advocated strict consumer protection laws for this country, because in other jurisdictions, service providers are not allowed to take customers for granted, but our lawmakers do not seem bothered.

Or is DStv in a world of its own?
