There must be flexibility in passport collection options
I bring to the attention of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration the growing concern and frustration among passport applicants regarding the current mandatory system of passport delivery through Ghana Post.
Many applicants have expressed difficulties and delays in receiving their passports via the postal service, including cases of miscommunication, prolonged delivery times and lack of timely updates.
Previously, applicants were able to conveniently collect their passports at their respective Passport Application Centres (PACs), a process that was generally faster and more predictable.
The current policy, which mandates collection only through Ghana Post, has inadvertently introduced inefficiencies that affect applicants’ schedules, especially those with urgent travel plans.
In view of this, I appeal to your esteemed office to consider reviewing the policy to allow applicants the choice to either:
• Collect their passports directly from the Passport Application Centre where they applied, or
• Opt for home or postal delivery through Ghana Post, if they prefer that mode.
This flexible approach would not only ease the current challenges applicants face but also improve public confidence in the passport application system.
It aligns with best practices in public service delivery, where citizens are given options that suit their convenience and circumstances.
I remain hopeful that your office will consider this request in the interest of improving service delivery to the Ghanaian public.
Freda Boateng,
Mamponteng Kumasi.
