Interpol arrests 1,000 cybercrime suspects in 19 African countries including Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa
More than 1,000 people suspected of cybercrimes were arrested in 19 African countries between September and October, Interpol announced Tuesday.
Operation Serengeti — led by Interpol and Afripol, the African Union’s policing organisation — targeted people suspected of cybercrimes, including those using ransomware, digital extortion, online scams and phishing schemes.
More than 35,000 victims were identified, with cases linked to nearly $193 million in financial losses worldwide, Interpol said.
The 'Operation Serengeti', which started on September 2 to October 31 targeted criminals behind ransomware, business email compromise (BEC), digital extortion and online scams - all identified as prominent threats in the 2024 Africa Cyber Threat Assessment Report.

”Preliminary Police investigations indicate that upon a request from the court, Police Officers accompanied a court bailiff in the company of the judgment creditor, Vodacom Business (Ghana) Limited, to execute a court order against Metro TV,” a statement issued by the police on Wednesday afternoon said.

EC urges political parties to avoid wasting resources on monitoring electoral material transport
The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has called on political parties to refrain from spending unnecessary resources on tracking vehicles transporting electoral materials across the country.
Speaking at the Graphic National Development Series in Accra on November 27, 2024, Dr. Asare noted that political parties, particularly the two major ones—NDC and NPP—have representatives in every region.
