Guinea Bissau's majority party calls for formation of inclusive government

The African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), winner of last legislative elections, has called for the formation of an inclusive government.

The government that will have 33 members will comprise all parties represented in Parliament, extra-parliamentary parties, civil society actors and confidants of the President of the republic.

"It will be a government where all will be represented," PAIGC chairman Domingos Simoes Pereira said.

Although acknowledging that the governmental team will be large, Pereira said this was the only way of resolving the current political crisis in the country.

According to PAIGC proposal, the Social Renewal Party which is the second largest political force with 41 members of Parliament will have eight members in government.

The PAIGC initiative is a response to a request by President Jose Mario Vaz who has asked for a stable government.

The government of Prime Minister Carlos Correia was dismissed last week by the Guinea Bissau President for being dysfunctional after seven months in office.
