APC Youth Network West Africa backs Sen. Ajibola Basiru for National Secretary re-election
A youth-focused political group within West Africa has thrown its weight behind Senator Dr Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, endorsing his bid to retain his position as National Secretary.
The APC Youth Network West Africa announced its support, citing what it described as Dr Basiru’s track record of administrative competence, discipline and commitment to strengthening the party’s internal structures. The group said his tenure had contributed significantly to improved coordination and organisational stability within the ruling party in Nigeria.
According to the network, continuity in leadership at the party’s secretariat is essential at a time when the APC is seeking to consolidate its gains and reinforce its institutional framework. It stressed that maintaining experienced leadership would help sustain progress and ensure stability across all levels of the party.
The group also highlighted Dr Basiru’s engagement with young people, noting that his openness to youth participation had helped foster stronger collaboration between party leadership and younger stakeholders both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.
Speaking on the endorsement, the Director-General of the APC Youth Network West Africa, Gideon Olatunde Igbasan, said the senator had demonstrated strong institutional loyalty and a clear grasp of party administration.
“Senator Ajibola Basiru has demonstrated exceptional administrative capacity, institutional loyalty, and a clear understanding of party structure. At this critical stage, continuity is not just desirable—it is necessary for stability, consolidation, and sustained progress within the All Progressives Congress,” he said.
He added that the network believed Dr Basiru’s re-election would further strengthen internal coordination and deepen inclusive participation within the party.
“As a youth-driven network, we strongly believe that his re-election will further strengthen internal coordination and deepen inclusive engagement across all levels of the Party,” he added.
The group has, therefore, called on delegates and stakeholders of the APC to back the senator’s re-election bid, arguing that it would serve the broader interests of unity, stability and sustained progress within the party.
