Child protection digital forensic lab in offing
A Child Protection digital forensic laboratory (CP-DFL) is to be set up by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to prevent and respond to cases of abuse of children and women online.
The establishment of the laboratory, which is said to be the first in West and Central Africa, is being supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
If the laboratory becomes operational, it will equip the police to handle more effectively online issues such as child sexual exploitation, bullying, sextortion and cyberstalking.
A Child Protection Specialist with UNICEF, Ms Hilda Mensah said in an interview in Accra that the laboratory will assist the police to detect, report and remove child abuse material and investigate the cases of trafficking and kidnapping in which digital devices (mobile and computers etc) have been used.
