According to the head teacher of the school, Ms Margaret-Reid Bartels, fruits supply nutrients including vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre, which keep children healthy.

“Additionally, children are likely to develop a sweet tooth and seek foods like chocolate, candies, and sugary beverages. So, those who want to indulge in desserts, fruits offer a healthy option,” she advised.

The Vice-President of the Parents Teachers Association, Mrs Beatrice Osei Bonsu, who was also the guest speaker for the occasion encouraged the children to incorporate fruits in their daily meals.

According to her, when it comes to fruits there is a rainbow of colours to choose from – which provides a rich source of antioxidants, instead of sugary snacks and fast food, which are high in fat and sugar.

“Fruits are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Eating a variety of fruits in the form of a fruit salad can go a long way in stimulating the energy level and health factor of the body. Eating fruit every day lowers the risk of so many diseases therefore, it is good for children to learn to eat them very often,” she stated.
