Joining Kotoko is a dream come true — Dari
Asante Kotoko's new signing, Aziz Haruna Dari, has described the decision by the club to recruit him into the team as a big opportunity.
He said his entire family was a huge supporter of the club and they are very proud to see one of their own playing for their favourite club.
Granting his first interview to the club after he completed his move to the Porcupine Warriors, goalkeeper Dari said he was there to make an impact and not just add to the numbers.
He explained that he didn't hesitate to jump at the opportunity when first contacted about the deal, and for a club like Kotoko to desire his services proved that he was doing something great.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper indicated that the clubs’ Technical Director, Coach Kwasi Appiah, had contacted him before he also got a call from Coach Benson, before former Kotoko CEO, Opoku Nti had called to ask if he was interested in joining the club.
He described Kotoko as one of the biggest in the country and on the continent and expressed his happiness at making his family proud because of their intense love for the Kumasi-based side.
"Kotoko is one of the biggest clubs in Ghana and Africa, and my family will be very proud that their son has now joined a team they've been supporting from their childhood, and my motive for coming to Kotoko is for my family to be happy", he said.
He explained that when he got the call to play for Kotoko, he knew that he was doing something good, but at the same time, he felt a massive pressure on him, considering the quality of goalkeepers that had passed through the club.
"If you look at the kind of goalkeepers that have played for Kotoko, that means you have to do double work to ensure that you are the right person to be in that position, so it brings pressure on me, but it is also a motivation for me to make a mark", he noted.
Aziz admitted that despite the pressure of playing for Kotoko, he was prepared to face it.
He mentioned former goalkeepers, including Frederick Asare and Danlad Ibrahim, as players who motivated him and whom he hopes to emulate.
