Swimming: Borteyman Complex to host African Aquatics Zone 2 Champs
Ghana has once again been handed the honour of hosting the Africa Aquatics (AA) Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championships, as the country prepares to welcome the region’s best swimmers to the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra from October 3—5, 2025.
This marks the second consecutive year that Ghana will host the combined championships and the fourth time overall it has staged the prestigious competition, further reinforcing its rising status as a key aquatic sports destination in West and Central Africa.
Last year’s successful hosting of the championships helped shine a spotlight on Ghana’s modern facilities and organisational capability.
The momentum officially kicked off with the unveiling of a seven-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) last Thursday in Accra.
The committee, chaired by respected sports administrator Dr Frederick Boamah, was inaugurated by the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who urged the LOC to deliver a tournament worthy of Ghana’s growing influence on the continental swimming stage.
The championships are expected to attract top-tier junior and senior swimmers from across the region, with honours, medals and World Aquatics ranking points up for grabs — a crucial step for many athletes eyeing global platforms.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Boamah pledged commitment and professionalism from the LOC.
“It is an honour to accept this responsibility, not just for myself but on behalf of my fellow committee members,” he said.
“To lead is to serve, and we fully understand the expectations placed on us. We are committed to delivering a successful event that makes Ghana proud.”
The full list of LOC members includes Seth Nti (Secretary), Ayishatu Farida Iddriss, Mohammed Aputeog, Hubert Leo Mensah (NSA representative), Elizabeth Addae and Aba Katu.
