Educationist counsels young girls
Young girls, particularly those in the secondary schools, have been advised to not take hasty and irresponsible decisions that could mar their future. Instead, they should focus on their prospects and work towards the attainment of their plans, irrespective of the challenges that may come their way.
An educationist and counsellor, Mrs Theodosia Wilhelmina Jackson, who gave the advice, was addressing female students of Elite College at Ayeduase near Kumasi at a programme dubbed ‘Girls’ Talk’.
“Every girl child has the capacity to achieve greatness, hardships notwithstanding. You only need to apply serious efforts towards achieving that greatness, else, you settle for anything and you would end up in the kitchen, only to be treated as nothing and not as an elite woman,” she said.
Greatness and dedication
Mrs Jackson, who is the Principal of the Jackson College of Education, a private training college based in Kumasi, advised the girls to aspire for greatness; be dedicated and disciplined as these were the requirements for success in life, adding, “Without discipline, you will not achieve your dreams”.
The programme was designed by two female staff members of the college, Ms Evelyn Dela Dogbatse and Adisa Ayele Musah, to create a platform for the female students to share ideas on tips for progress.
It was also aimed at providing the girls with information on health, lifestyle and entrepreneurial skills.
The organisers told the Daily Graphic that the programme was designed to help the girl-child surmount the challenges of adolescent life and to prepare them adequately for adult life.
In his welcome address, the Headmaster of Elite College, Mr Kwasi Addae-Wireko, said the college was not only interested in the academic pursuit of its students but also life outside the classroom, which is also an important aspect in the educational curriculum.
